Four hackers arrested with help from FBI and HSI
Police from the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime have arrested four members of a criminal group who cloned telephone numbers and stole funds from cryptocurrency exchanges. The criminals laundered tens of millions of zlotys. They face up to 25 years in prison.

Officers from the Kraków division of the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime have arrested four individuals belonging to an organised criminal group. In their operation, they were supported by American federal services – the FBI and HSI.
The suspects were charged with participation in a criminal organisation, theft through computer system intrusion, and money laundering. The court decided to remand all of those arrested in custody. These offences carry a sentence of up to 25 years' imprisonment.
The criminals carried out "SIM swap" attacks – they illegally copied the telephone numbers of victims, and then seized control of their accounts on cryptocurrency exchange platforms. In this way they withdrew significant sums of money.
The stolen funds were immediately put into legal circulation through a distributed financial network. The perpetrators, deriving steady income from this, used private bank accounts in Poland and abroad for transfers, international payment systems, and multi-currency digital wallets. According to the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime, tens of millions of zlotys originating from criminal activity were laundered in this manner.
Investigators do not rule out further arrests in this case.
