Polish authorities have arrested one of the suspects in the attack on Russian opposition artist Robert Kuzovkov, announced Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the X platform. A Georgian passport was found on the detained man, according to 444.hu.
Tusk stated that investigators are currently working to establish the identity of the person who commissioned the killing. On Wednesday, he said that all evidence points to a political assassination, but one must wait for proof. If it turns out that Kuzovkov was killed on Russian orders, it would be a "very serious fact of international significance", he added.
Kuzovkov, who performed under the stage name Semyon Skripecki, was shot dead on Monday in Biała Podlaska in eastern Poland. The perpetrator fled the scene.
The artist had lived in Poland since 2021. Through his caricatures and performances, he mocked the Russian elite; he criticised President Vladimir Putin and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
Following the killing, police detained two Belarusian citizens near the local general consulate, but it emerged that they had no connection to the case, so they were released.
