Murder in Caimito and gunfire in Caguas leave five injured
A man was found shot dead in a grocery store in Caimito, San Juan, whilst a shooting in Caguas left five people injured hours later.
Two violent incidents shake San Juan and Caguas in less than 24 hours
Metro.pr reports that on the night of Saturday, 15 August 2026, at 7:17 p.m., the Police were alerted through the Emergency Services System 9-1-1 about a serious assault at the El Jobo grocery store, located on Avelino López road, in the Caimito area of San Juan.
When the uniformed officers arrived at the scene, they found the bullet-ridden body of Alexander Bruno Pastrana, 45, on the ground. Pastrana was a pitcher for several teams in the Double A Superior Baseball League, including Maunabo, Comerío, Fajardo and Cidra.
Agent Rafael Pérez, attached to the Criminal Investigation Corps of San Juan, and prosecutor Félix Rivera are in charge of the investigation into this violent death.
Hours later, in the early morning of Sunday, 16 August, at 2:16 a.m., a second call alerted the Police to gunfire at a business located on road PR-156, branch 784, in the Cañaboncito neighbourhood, in the municipality of Caguas.
The agents who went to the scene found several bullet casings. Shortly afterwards, a new call reported that several injured people had arrived at a nearby hospital. In total, five people linked to the shooting received medical attention: four women aged between 38 and 60, and a man of 45. The attending physician informed the agents that all were in stable condition.
The case is being investigated by personnel from the Assaults division of the Criminal Investigation Corps of Caguas.
