According to telemundopr.com, agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Puerto Rico Police arrested three men in separate cases related to child sexual exploitation on the island.
The detainees were identified as Samuel Alexander Meléndez Pérez, 25 years old and a resident of Canóvanas; Carlos Javier Rosado Rosado, 21 years old and a resident of Vega Baja; and Rubén Cautiño Latoni, 37 years old and a resident of Guaynabo.
Acting federal prosecutor for the District of Puerto Rico, Héctor Ramírez Carbó, stated that the three face charges for receiving, distributing and/or possessing child sexual abuse material on electronic devices.
In the case of Cautiño Latoni, authorities noted that in February 2020 he had already been found guilty by the Federal Court for the District of Puerto Rico for possession of child pornography.
"We are committed to bringing those accused in these cases to justice and with protecting all children," declared Ramírez Carbó.
Acting special agent in charge of HSI San Juan, Yariel Ramos, highlighted that in one of the cases authorities found more than 2,500 unlawful images. Ramos added that one of the arrested individuals had previously been investigated by the same agency for crimes of a similar nature.
