21-year-old woman charged with transporting crime suspect from Patillas to airport
According to elnuevodia.com, a 21-year-old woman was arrested for transporting the suspect in the murder of Jadriel Antonio Rivas Laboy to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Carolina, for the purpose of facilitating his departure from Puerto Rico.
The accused, identified as Sachenka Morales, was linked to the case through a charge of first-degree murder as an accomplice. Judge Ángel Rodríguez Torres of the Guayama Court determined probable cause and set bail at $250,000.
"She aided, cooperated and transported the alleged murderer to Luis Muñoz Marín airport in Carolina so that he would leave the jurisdiction," the police report states.
The crime: nine months of investigation on PR-3
The case originated on 28 January 2026, when Rivas Laboy, 22, was shot and killed while driving a Veloce brand jet ski along the PR-3 highway in Patillas, at approximately 9:26 p.m. A call to the 9-1-1 system alerted authorities to the violent death.
The investigation was conducted by agent Carlos M. León Vázquez of the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) in Guayama, under the supervision of sergeant Jennifer Colón Mateo. Prosecutor Carlos Ojeda Marini presented the charges before the court.
Morales' arrest occurred on Wednesday, nearly nine months after the crime.
Primary suspect extradited from Philadelphia
In parallel, the primary suspect in the murder, Keimy Feliciano Colón Medina, 25, entered the correctional institution in Bayamón on Tuesday following his extradition by authorities from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, unable to post bail of $2 million.
Feliciano Colón Medina faces a first-degree murder charge and three counts of violations of the Weapons Act. He had been arrested in July in Philadelphia and subsequently extradited to Puerto Rico to face judicial proceedings. Agents from the Guayama Intelligence and Arrests Division executed the arrest warrant at the San Juan Court, where Judge Alfrida Tomey Imbert read him his Miranda rights and ordered his imprisonment.
The victim's mother seeks justice, not vengeance
Verónica Laboy Pérez, mother of Jadriel Rivas Laboy, whom she affectionately called "Yeyo", expressed on social media her pain over the nine months that have passed since her son's death, and her hope that the judicial process will move forward.
"Since yesterday, when I learned that you were already in Puerto Rico, I have not stopped thanking God for listening to my prayers and for allowing me to see this moment that I waited for so long," she wrote, referring to the return of the accused to the island.
Laboy Pérez noted that despite the accumulated suffering, she harbours no hatred towards the accused, though she does demand that they be held accountable by justice.
"I want you to know something: in my heart there is no hatred, but there does exist an immense desire for you to answer to justice for all the harm you have caused us. Because you did not only take away my son from me, you also destroyed dreams, changed our lives forever and left a void that no one will ever be able to fill," she stated in her post.
The woman described the months following the crime as a period marked by tears and sleepless nights, and reiterated her commitment to remain steadfast during the proceedings.
"I know there is still a path to travel, but I trust in God and that justice will do its work. Today nine months have passed since they took away my Jadriel," she added.
In a message directed directly to her son, Laboy Pérez stressed that she will not abandon the fight undertaken since January.
"My son, your mother did not give up, has not given up and will never give up. I promised you that I would fight for you and here I am, with my heart broken to pieces, but standing. Because the love of a mother is greater than any obstacle," she concluded.
Before ending her post, the mother emphasised her position with clarity: "I do not seek vengeance, I seek justice".
