Drug trafficking network dismantled in Porto: two held in preventive custody

PSP operation dismantles drug trafficking network near Porto University Campus

Two men, aged 27 and 42, were arrested on Friday in a police operation that dismantled a "significant network" of drug trafficking in the Porto University Campus area, according to Observador. The PSP confirmed the operation this Tuesday in a statement.

The PSP Metropolitan Command carried out three residential searches and one non-residential search, extending the operation to the municipality of Valongo. The intervention focused "especially" on the São Tomé neighbourhood in Paranhos, an area classified as being of "high relevance" due to its proximity to the University Campus.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 10,250 doses of cannabis resin or hashish, 403 doses of cannabis leaf and plant material, 1,460 euros in cash, two motorcycles, three mobile phones, a digital scale, a helmet and a pair of motorcyclist gloves, as well as other "paraphernalia of objects related to the crime in question", according to the PSP statement.

In total, more than 10,600 doses of narcotic substance were seized.

The two accused were brought before the Criminal Investigation Court of the Porto District, which applied the most serious measure of restraint: preventive custody.

The Porto PSP emphasises that "the dismantling of this significant network represents yet another major blow against drug trafficking in the Porto Metropolitan Area, with particular impact on the Paranhos parish".
