Cosmin Tudoran arrested by DIICOT for terrorist threats against synagogue, shortly after suspended sentence
Cosmin Tudoran, sentenced to a suspended prison term for assaulting a delivery driver from Bangladesh, was arrested by DIICOT for making terrorist threats. Bucharest Court of Appeal approved his preventive detention on 8 October 2026.

Arrested by DIICOT one day after suspended sentence for assaulting delivery driver
Cosmin Tudoran, the 21-year-old extremist who had struck a delivery driver from Bangladesh on the street and filmed himself telling him that he is "an invader", was detained by DIICOT on 7 October 2026 for making terrorist threats — shortly after Sector 2 Magistrate's Court had given him a suspended sentence in the assault case. Bucharest Court of Appeal approved, on 8 October 2026, the preventive arrest proposal submitted by DIICOT prosecutors, according to libertatea.ro.
Tudoran had threatened to blow up a synagogue, even while being tried for assault and public use of fascist, legionnaire, racist or xenophobic symbols. On 19 October 2026, the High Court rejected his appeal, so the young man remained in detention.
Sentenced to suspended prison term for assaulting delivery driver Ismail Hossain
On 26 August 2025, around 22:30, Cosmin Tudoran approached Ismail Hossain, a citizen of Bangladesh who had been working in Romania as a delivery driver for three months, at a pedestrian crossing. Tudoran struck him in the face with his fist, and when the victim asked him why he was doing this, he told him to go back to his country, filming the scene with his mobile phone.
An off-duty police officer who witnessed the assault pursued and immobilised Tudoran. On the recording, the young man can be heard abruptly changing his tone: "Sorry, mate", he shouted while running away, and after being thrown to the ground: "Can I call my mum?".
During the investigation, investigators also discovered a video collage posted by Tudoran on TikTok on 14 June 2025, which contained Nazi and legionnaire symbols, as well as a photograph of Adolf Hitler. Thus, to the charge of assault was added that of public use of fascist, legionnaire, racist or xenophobic symbols.
Sector 2 Magistrate's Court convicted him on 10 September 2026 to one year and six months in prison for assault and other acts of violence, respectively six months for promoting fascist symbols — resulting sentence of one year and eight months, suspended. The judge justified the decision by the fact that Tudoran came from an adoptive family, that he had not received "the necessary guidance" in childhood and that he has alcohol problems, ordering him to undergo medical treatment.
Although the judge noted in his judgment that the young man "presents particular dangerousness", he opted for a suspended sentence rather than postponement of execution of sentence — the difference being that, in the case of postponement, the criminal record would have remained clean at the end of the supervision period, whereas a suspended sentence will automatically be added to any future sentence.
Context: AUR deputy's message and other assaults
Tudoran's assault came after AUR deputy Dan Tănasă published a message on Facebook urging Romanians to refuse deliveries from "unqualified workers from Asia and Africa". Dan Tănasă was later referred for trial for incitement to hatred and discrimination.
In the same period, three men from Cluj beat a Nepalese delivery driver with a bat, the victim suffering serious after-effects.
Prior detention and legal consequences
Cosmin Tudoran had previously been in preventive detention from 27 August 2025 to 25 September 2025, after which he was placed under house arrest until 26 November 2025. It was precisely these previous preventive measures that convinced the judge at Sector 2 Magistrate's Court to pronounce a suspended sentence, rather than one with execution.
If Tudoran does not obtain acquittal in the new case of terrorist threats, the suspended sentence from the assault case will merge with the new sentence, resulting in one with actual execution.
