Judges at the supreme court have definitively rejected release requests from two prosecutors in Constanța, accused of receiving money and favours for intervening in cases.

Judges at the country's highest criminal court have definitively decided that two prosecutors from the Black Sea port will remain behind bars. The two were part of the structure of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Court of Appeal in Constanța and are suspected of serious corruption offences.
The first of them, a man named Ștefan, is said to have been caught with approximately 60,000 euros in his own office in April of this year. The money was allegedly given by a person who hoped the magistrate would convince his colleagues to reach a favourable solution in a criminal investigation. The law officer is said to have suggested he had leverage over certain judges as well, promising he would intervene in two civil lawsuits.
Investigators also say that over the past six months, the same prosecutor allegedly received other sums and advantages repeatedly, totalling around 110,000 euros. In exchange for these favours, he promised he would intervene with various public officials to speed up bureaucratic procedures, obtain favourable decisions in investigations, or facilitate useful contacts in the business environment.
The second prosecutor, Niță, is suspected of having attempted at the beginning of the year to convince a fire brigade commander to overlook irregularities discovered at a company controlled by an acquaintance of his.
The decision to maintain the arrest was taken on 5 June and was confirmed definitively now, after the appeals lodged by the two were rejected as unfounded.
