Police from Bistrița-Năsăud and Maramureș conducted raids on Monday at the residences of 19 suspects in a case concerning illegal weapons trafficking, unauthorised hunting and unlawful possession of firearms.

On Monday, 8 June 2026, law enforcement simultaneously descended on 31 addresses in Bistrița-Năsăud and Maramureș counties. 19 individuals are under investigation, suspected of involvement in the illegal introduction and trafficking of firearms and ammunition, unauthorised hunting of wild animals, and the use of weapons without legal permit.
The investigation, named JUPITER, is being conducted under the direction of prosecutors at the Office of the High Court of Cassation and Justice and the central structure of the Romanian Police. At the local level, the investigation is being supervised by magistrates at the Beclean Court, and the field operation was led by specialists from the Bureau for Weapons, Explosives and Dangerous Substances within the Bistrița-Năsăud Police Inspectorate, according to information published by G4Media.ro.
The intervention forces included police officers from both counties, as well as gendarmes from the mobile units based in Cluj-Napoca and Târgu Mureș, alongside their colleagues from the Bistrița-Năsăud County Gendarmerie Inspectorate.
The judicial procedures remain ongoing, being managed by police specialists in weapons and explosives control from Bistrița-Năsăud, under the direct supervision of the local prosecutor's office.
