Three penitentiary workers in Suriname were arrested this week by police in three unrelated cases, following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service.
Three Surinamese Prison Officers Arrested in Separate Criminal Cases
Surinamese police arrested three prison officers this week in three unrelated criminal cases. The arrests took place following coordination with the Public Prosecution Service. According to Waterkant.
The first officer was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Commewijne District. After the accident, a physical altercation broke out between the parties. The officer is suspected of violent behaviour. Further investigation will determine whether the arrest was lawful.
The second officer is accused of intimidating and inflicting physical harm on his extramarital partner. The incident occurred in the area where the Santodorp police operate. This suspect is also in custody.
The third penitentiary worker is suspected of helping criminals with their activities. He was arrested on Wednesday.
The investigating team is examining all the facts. On the basis of the findings, the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service will decide on any potential prosecution.
