Man (68) arrested after attempting to take two children in Uitvlugt
Police officers from Uitvlugt police station arrested a 68-year-old man during the night of Thursday, 2 April 2026. He is suspected of two attempted abductions of young girls. During the arrest, the force received assistance from colleagues from Leiding.
The first incident occurred when a five-year-old was playing outside with children her own age. The elderly man managed to persuade her to get into his vehicle. The other playing children reacted with shock and immediately warned adults. A cousin cycled to a nearby supermarket, where he found the girl with the unknown man. He took her back home. Shortly afterwards, around half past one in the afternoon, a family member reported the matter to Uitvlugt police.
The second incident took place that same evening. Around five minutes to nine, a member of the public reported to the station. He had received information from a neighbour who had seen a black car with a man and a young girl inside. The neighbour suspected it was an attempted abduction, partly because of an earlier warning about the five-year-old victim that had circulated on social media that afternoon. The neighbour got into his own car and pursued the vehicle. Shortly afterwards, he managed to remove the ten-year-old child, whom he knew as the daughter of a friend, from the car and bring her to her parents.
Police launched a search operation, but initially did not find the suspect. Later that evening, an inspector driving home spotted the black vehicle and the suspect in the vicinity of Leiding 8A. With support from Leiding station, the 68-year-old was arrested and brought to the police station.
During the investigation, it emerged that the arrestee had previously served a lengthy sentence in the United States for child abuse of a twelve-year-old. After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, he was remanded in custody pending further investigation.
