Two arrests following shooting in Zusterproject

surinametimes.com reports that suspects RW (26) and RN (23) have been arrested by members of the Paramaribo Regional Assistance Service (RBTP) at separate residential addresses following intensive investigation.

The pair are suspected of shooting a man with a firearm on 22 May in the Zusterproject. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the abdominal area and transported himself to the Emergency Department (SEH) of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP). When police from Geyersvlijt station arrived at the scene, the victim had already left. He was admitted to hospital for treatment.

From the preliminary police investigation, it emerged that RW and RN had allegedly conducted business dealings with the victim in the past, during which agreed arrangements had not been honoured. On the day in question, the three parties met, after which a verbal altercation ensued. During that confrontation, one of the suspects produced a firearm and discharged a shot in the direction of the victim. After the shooting, the suspects fled.

Upon the arrest of RW and RN, the firearm allegedly used in the incident was located and seized. Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service (OM), both suspects have been remanded in custody pending the investigation.
