Officers from the 1st Police Station in Montevideo detained a 31-year-old man who was driving against traffic and then attempted to flee on foot. In the operation, narcotics and cash were seized.

Officers from the first police station in the Uruguayan capital were conducting surveillance tasks when they spotted a car travelling in the opposite direction to that permitted on Buenos Aires Street. The uniformed officers began to follow it from behind and noticed that the driver turned onto Ituzaingó and increased speed, ignoring traffic signals.

When he reached the intersection with Piedras, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and ran to escape. The officers followed him and managed to apprehend him at the corner of Cerrito and Bartolomé Mitre.

The arrested man is 31 years old and has no previous convictions. During the operation the following items were seized:

Experts from the National Criminal Police Division are conducting examinations in the area. The suspect was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
