Two arrested with firearms in Montevideo following patrol in area of repeated robberies
Agents from the 8th Section detained two people who were carrying firearms in an area of Montevideo with high incidence of robberies, according to information reported by the Interior Ministry on GUB.UY.
The apprehension took place when uniformed officers were conducting preventive patrols in the vicinity of Coronel Raíz and Ruta 102, an area affected by repeated robbery and theft crimes. During the patrol, the officers observed two vehicles whose conduct appeared suspicious.
After intercepting one of the vehicles, the police managed to arrest one of the occupants. The second individual attempted to escape by running, but was captured at the corner of Coronel Raíz and Camino José Durán. During the flight, the fugitive threw two pistols whose serial numbers had been erased.
In the procedure, one pistol with two magazines, one revolver with six rounds, fifteen additional cartridges and the two vehicles in which the detainees were travelling were seized.
The 15th Shift Prosecution Office was informed of the incident and ordered that the arrested individuals remain at the disposal of the judiciary whilst investigations continue.
