Montevideo police are conducting two investigations into murders committed on Monday in different neighbourhoods of the capital. According to a statement from the department's headquarters, both victims were men and died from gunshot wounds.

The first incident occurred in Barrio, in the vicinity of Senda 19 and Calle 8. Officers discovered a 38-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. Police officers took him to a nearby medical facility while he still showed vital signs, but he died shortly after being admitted. At the scene of the attack, officers found a spent cartridge casing and blood traces. Specialist personnel from Scientific Police conducted the forensic examination.

The second crime took place in Nuevo París, at the corner of Llupes and Córdoba. A 24-year-old man was travelling on a motorcycle accompanied by a woman when he was pursued by two men who were also travelling on a motorbike. The chase lasted several minutes until the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed onto the tarmac at Córdoba and Julián Laguna. At that moment, the attackers fired multiple shots. The victim attempted to flee on foot but was struck by bullets at the entrance to a residence on José Llupes, where he was killed.

At the scene of the second attack, officers seized several 9-millimetre cartridge casings and the deceased's motorcycle, which remained at the site.

The 2nd Shift Homicide Prosecutor's Office and the Homicides section are in charge of both investigations.
