Minors convicted of killing delivery driver during robbery attempt in Montevideo
Two adolescents aged 15 and 16 were convicted by Uruguayan courts for the killing of a delivery driver in Carrasco Norte, reported montevideo.com.uy. The incident took place on 24 April at the intersection of Capri and Máximo Tajes streets in the department of Montevideo.
The victim arrived at the location to deliver an order when two people approached on foot with the intention of robbing him of his motorcycle. The delivery driver resisted and struggled with the attackers, who shot him. The perpetrators failed to take possession of the vehicle and abandoned it on the public road.
Days after the crime, one of the minors was charged as the suspected perpetrator of the killing and transferred preventively to a facility of the National Institute for Adolescent Social Inclusion (Inisa). This Friday, the court found him guilty of murder and sentenced him to five years and two months of detention at the institute.
The second person involved, a 15-year-old minor detained the Wednesday before the sentencing, was declared "co-perpetrator of an extremely serious infraction provided for in criminal law as a homicide offence with very special aggravating circumstances". His sentence established detention at the Inisa of four years and two months.
