Officers from the police department of Lavalleja carried out a series of operations in Montevideo that resulted in the apprehension of two suspects, who are attributed with the authorship of four cases of digital fraud reported last year.

The residential searches were conducted in the Uruguayan capital with the aim of finding those responsible for the financial scams. Various specialised units participated: the Republican Guard, the organised crime unit and INTERPOL, the Directorate of Complex Cases, the police intelligence section, the narcotic drug suppression department and the prison analysis unit.

One of the detainees, F.G.A.A., aged 19, was brought before prosecutor Marlene Canosa, who is acting in the second shift. Subsequently, the competent court ruled his guilt as a participant in two infractions of computer fraud with repetitive modality. The established sentence consists of eight months of confinement under supervised liberty, with monitoring by DINAMA, weekly appearance before the police station of the area where he resides, community service of two hours per week, and night-time curfew between 22:00 and 06:00.

The other defendant, C.D.N.O., aged 24, was also accused by the prosecution of two computer frauds as a co-author. In his case, the measures adopted by the court are: to maintain a fixed residence with prior notice, not to leave the country, not to contact or approach the persons harmed, and to comply with a night-time curfew at the same times, for 120 days.

The investigation began with four complaints for frauds and financial scams in 2024, and investigators are seeking other possible accomplices.
