Human remains were located in the basement of a property undergoing construction, situated at the intersection of Avenida Quirós and Calle Moreno in Colón, according to a report published by Diario Río Uruguay.
The discovery was made after the construction supervisor alerted authorities because he was unable to reach the night-time security guard for the site. Following the report, police personnel arrived at the location and began to examine the facilities under instructions from the Public Prosecutor's Office.
In a basement area used as storage, officers found the remains of a person concealed behind a poorly constructed brick partition, located directly beneath a staircase. The zone's deputy chief, Martín Furlong, explained that the wall had been built deliberately to hide the body.
The identity of the victim and the cause of death will be determined when an autopsy is carried out in Oro Verde. Without confirmation from official spokespeople, detectives are considering the possibility that it may be the night-time guard who had been reported as missing. He would be a male of Paraguayan origin who was not from the region and who worked at that site.
Furlong stated that there is solid evidence linking someone close to the deceased person, an individual with whom he may have had a friendship. However, he made clear that other lines of investigation remain open as well.
For now no one has been detained, but the police force assured that they continue investigating substantial leads and that, as forensic analysis progresses, further details about what occurred could be released in the coming hours.
