Suspected hitman caught on camera engulfed in flames after Tallaght shooting

A suspected hitman set himself on fire twice while attempting to destroy getaway vehicles following the shooting of a man at his home in Tallaght, Dublin, irishmirror.ie reports.

Footage captured the moment the suspect was engulfed in flames as he tried to burn out a car on Rathmill Glen estate in Rathcoole — the second such incident in the same afternoon.

The shooting took place at approximately 12.10pm at a property on Cookstown Road in Tallaght. A man in his 50s sustained several gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital, where his condition was described as serious. He is believed to have been targeted because a relative owes a substantial drug debt.

After the attack, the gunman fled the scene in a small black van. A man — believed to be the same individual — later drove that van to Kilcarrig Close in Tallaght, where he attempted to set it alight. During that attempt, he is believed to have set himself on fire for the first time. The weapon used in the shooting is also suspected to have been left inside the van.

The man then fled Kilcarrig Close in a second car and drove to Rathmill Glen estate in Rathcoole, where he attempted to destroy that vehicle as well. Footage from the scene shows two men dressed in black stepping out of a small black car. One of them pours petrol from a jerry can into the vehicle before igniting it.

As the car catches fire, the man is once again engulfed in flames. He then runs to the wrong getaway car, frantically pulling at the driver's door, before realising his mistake and sprinting to a silver car nearby. He gets into the driver's seat and speeds away.

Three locations have since been linked to the attempted murder: Cookstown Cottages, where the shooting occurred; Kilcarrig Close, where the first vehicle — a small dark van — was burnt out; and Rathmill Glen estate in Rathcoole, where the second vehicle was only partially destroyed.

Gardaí have launched a formal investigation and are appealing for witnesses across all three scenes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
