Longford man granted bail again after arrest for skipping court while on bail

Bench warrant arrest ends in fresh bail at special Longford court sitting

A 45-year-old Longford man arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court has been released on bail for a second time, longfordleader.ie reports. Robbie O'Haire, of Springlawn, Longford, was brought before a special sitting of Longford District Court and Longford Circuit Court on Sunday, 1 November.

The presiding judge granted bail on the basis that O'Haire had no legal representation, owing to the ongoing legal aid strike. He was ordered to return to court on Tuesday, 3 November, at which point Gardaí intend to seek revocation of his bail.

The bench warrant had been issued at the 27 October sitting of Longford District Court after O'Haire failed to attend court for a second time — he was already on bail at that stage.

O'Haire currently faces a range of charges. The first stems from an incident on 19 September, during which Garda David Gerrity was conducting a search under the Misuse of Drugs Acts. It is alleged that O'Haire removed an item from his pocket and swallowed it as the search was under way.

Further charges arise from 14 October, when O'Haire is alleged to have entered the curtilage of four buildings as a trespasser — three on Legion Terrace in Longford town and one in Farranyoogan — in circumstances giving rise to a reasonable inference that his presence was with intent to commit an offence.

He also faces a theft charge relating to a silver gents Lorus watch valued at €100 and Sony earbuds worth €70, taken from an address on Legion Terrace.

Two additional charges concern entering vehicles parked outside homes on Legion Terrace, with a third charge of attempting to enter a vehicle parked outside a home in Western Park.

O'Haire is listed to appear before Longford District Court on Tuesday, 3 November.
