Legal aid decision deferred in Portlaoise drug and cash seizure case
A judge at Portlaoise District Court has deferred a decision on legal aid for a man accused of holding €14,410 in cash, drugs, and cigarettes at his home, leinsterexpress.ie reports.
Adam Klepa (46), of Woodgrove Lawns, Ballyfin Road, Portlaoise, faces a charge of possession of drugs for sale or supply at his address on 20 May last.
Solicitor Brian Duffy presented a statement of means to Judge Andrew Gubbins and argued that his client was a suitable candidate for legal aid. Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told the court that the alleged seizure included drugs valued at €1,860, cigarettes worth €1,800, and €14,410 in cash found at the accused's address.
Sergeant Kirby added that DPP directions were not yet available, as Gardaí were still awaiting a certificate of analysis relating to the drugs.
Judge Gubbins declined to rule on the legal aid application immediately. "I will leave the matter of legal aid over until DPP directions are before the court," he said.
Klepa was remanded on bail and the case was adjourned to Portlaoise District Court on 16 November.
