Two charged over Waterford arson that claimed four lives
A man and a woman have appeared before a special sitting of Clonmel District Court on charges linked to a fatal arson attack in Waterford City, irishexaminer.com reports.
Cian Stacey, 21, and Jessica Dalton, 31, each faced one count of criminal damage and two counts of assault causing serious harm. The charges follow an attack on a family home on Tuesday in which Philip and Kim English and their two sons, Callum, 12, and Jayden, nine, all died.
Judge Andrew Gubbins presided over the Saturday evening sitting in Co Tipperary. Detective Sergeant Michael Burke told the court that Dalton, with an address in Waterford City, was charged at 2.45pm at Waterford Garda Station and made no reply. Detective Sergeant Brian O'Callaghan told the court that Stacey, of no fixed address, was charged one minute earlier at the same station and also made no reply.
Dalton appeared wearing a black sports top and leggings; Stacey wore a grey tracksuit top. Her barrister, Ciaran Murphy, confirmed she consented to being remanded in custody until Tuesday at Waterford District Court. Murphy applied for legal aid on her behalf, noting she was a lone parent and not in employment.
Stacey was remanded to appear by videolink on Tuesday at Waterford District Court. No bail application was made on his behalf, and a legal aid application was also submitted for him.
The funerals of the four victims are due to take place on Monday.
