Motorcyclist arrested for riding while disqualified after Red Bay crash

A motorcycle and car collided on Hurley Merren Boulevard near Red Bay roundabout at 7:15am Thursday. The rider was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries and later arrested.

Crash on Hurley Merren Boulevard disrupts morning commute

A motorcycle rider was hospitalised and subsequently arrested following a collision on the westbound lane of Hurley Merren Boulevard, near the Red Bay roundabout, at approximately 7:15am on Thursday, Cayman News Service reports.

The crash coincided with the first day of the school year, adding to peak-hour congestion for commuters across the island.

The motorcycle sustained extensive damage in the collision, while the car involved suffered major damage. A third vehicle travelling eastbound in the opposite lane also sustained minor damage, though none of its occupants were injured.

Both the motorcycle rider and the car driver were medically assessed at the scene. The rider was subsequently transported to the Health Services Authority hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, and he remains in stable condition.

Both drivers were breath-tested at the scene, with negative results returned for each. Despite this, the motorcycle rider was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

The Traffic and Roads Policing Unit of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) is continuing its investigation into the collision.
