Al Martino 'Joe' Bush identified as West Bay murder victim, $50K reward offered

Police have named the man shot dead in a West Bay home on Monday as Al Martino Bush, 49. A $50,000 reward is on offer for information leading to an arrest.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) has confirmed that the man shot and killed inside a West Bay home just off Watercourse Road on Monday morning was Al Martino Bush, 49, known locally as Joe, caymannewsservice.com reports.

Two men arrested in connection with the killing have since been released on bail pending further investigations. Police say a major crime team has been established to "solve this crime as expeditiously as possible."

In a press release, the RCIPS acknowledged the impact the incident has had on the community and said a number of measures have been put in place to provide reassurance. These include increased visible patrols in targeted areas throughout the West Bay district, with both armed officers and foot patrol units deployed.

Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown appealed directly to those close to the victim. "We are appealing to the family, friends and associates of Mr Bush to allow the police to conduct our investigation and bring the perpetrator(s) to justice in the right way," Lansdown said. "The safety of the community is paramount and requires your cooperation. Our detectives have an 85% detection rate for murder investigations in the Cayman Islands, and we are pursuing this investigation with the same level of diligence."

Detectives are asking anyone who had contact with or saw Bush between Saturday, 21 June, and Monday, 23 June, to contact the Major Incident Room at 649-2930. Anonymous information can be submitted to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or through the RCIPS website.

Cayman Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for any tip that leads to the arrest and charge of the person or persons responsible for Bush's death. To qualify for the reward, information must be submitted anonymously via caymancrimestoppers.com.
