Deported Saint Lucian Faces Court Over Threatening Online Video

St Lucia Times reports that Clent Richardson, a 36-year-old Saint Lucian deported from the United States in March 2023, has been arrested and charged in connection with a threatening video that circulated on social media.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) said Richardson was taken into custody on Saturday, September 19, following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the videos. He was subsequently charged on Monday, September 21, under the Computer Misuse Act with the offence of malicious communication.

Richardson appeared before the First District Court on Tuesday and was granted $500 cash bail. Among his bail conditions, he is prohibited from posting anything on social media expressing frustration and must report to Central Police Station every Tuesday before 6 p.m. The matter has been adjourned to November 5, 2026.

The RSLPF used the occasion to remind the public that content posted on social media can carry legal consequences. The force stated that while individuals have the right to express themselves, electronic devices and online platforms must be used responsibly and within the law. Police are also urging members of the public to exercise caution before recording, posting, forwarding, or sharing content — particularly material that may be threatening, menacing, misleading, or intended to cause distress or alarm.
