Manhunt underway after convicted prisoner flees Lewisham medical unit

A convicted prisoner has absconded from a medical facility in Lewisham, South London, prompting a Metropolitan Police manhunt, The Argus reports.

Anthony Lloyd, 38, forced his way out of the unit at around 4.10pm on Friday and was last seen heading towards Catford. Officers believe he could be anywhere in London, though he also has known links to Sussex, Surrey, Thames Valley, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Merseyside.

Detective Superintendent Melanie Pressley, who is leading the operation, said: "We are conducting various significant inquiries to find Lloyd and return him to custody. We are concerned he poses a risk both to himself and the public, and would urge anyone who sees him to call 999 immediately."

Lloyd is described as white, approximately 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, with short dark hair. When last seen he was wearing a grey-blue T-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

He was convicted in 2025 of actual bodily harm following an incident in Nottinghamshire involving three emergency workers, and was serving a 12-month custodial sentence. He had been transferred to the Lewisham medical facility in September.

Pressley added: "If you have any information — however small — that could help us locate Lloyd, please get in touch with police as a matter of urgency."

Anyone with information is urged to call 999, quoting reference CAD4739/23Oct.
