Three Polish brothers arrested in UK face extradition for 2020 fatal beating in Radomsko
Three brothers convicted in absentia in Poland for a fatal beating in 2020 now face extradition from the UK in what may be a legal first.
Polish brothers held in UK after fleeing conviction for fatal assault
Three brothers convicted in absentia for a deadly beating in Poland are facing extradition from Britain in what The Sun reports may be the first case of its kind in British legal history.
Dariusz Paczkowski, 30, Dawid Paczkowski, 29, and Hubert Paczkowski, 27, were among a group of men who attacked two victims in the city of Radomsko in 2020, battering and stomping on them. One of the victims died days later from a brain haemorrhage.
The three brothers were charged with "participation in a beating resulting in the death of a person". Rather than face trial, they fled to the United Kingdom before proceedings opened at a court in Lodz last October. Each received a five-year sentence in their absence.
Polish authorities subsequently issued arrest warrants. National Extradition Unit officers arrested Dariusz — a warehouse packer living in Romford, Essex — and Hubert, of Southend, in June. Dawid was detained in Southend last month.
All three are currently held in custody and are appearing before Westminster Magistrates Court in extradition proceedings. Their next hearing is scheduled for 30 October.
The Crown Prosecution Service said it was unable to provide a record of any comparable case, supporting the assessment that this marks the first time in British legal history that three siblings have simultaneously faced removal from the UK for offences committed abroad.
