Forensics student pleads guilty to Airbnb murder modelled on TV show Dexter
A forensic science student obsessed with the US television drama Dexter has pleaded guilty to murdering a 24-year-old woman after luring her to a plastic-lined "kill room" inside an Airbnb property, BBC News reports.
Benjamin William Day, 20, changed his plea to guilty on the second day of his trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Day was 19 at the time of the killing.
Prosecutors said he had carefully and deliberately planned the murder of Maria Saceanu, preparing a room with plastic sheeting and materials intended to help him kill her and dispose of evidence.
Day, of Yeadon Close in Redditch, Worcestershire, had been expected to argue he acted in self-defence and had set up the room to film a Dexter tribute video for TikTok. After an hour-long delay to proceedings, however, he returned to the dock and appeared to smirk as he entered his guilty plea.
The University of Worcester undergraduate was remanded in custody following the hearing and is due to be sentenced on 4 December.
