Remains found in freezer three years after alleged killing

George Gordon, 65, of Gerards Court, Hawes Avenue, Carr Mill, is standing trial at Liverpool Crown Court charged with the murder of artist Delia McInerney, sthelensstar.co.uk reports.

Prosecutors allege Gordon killed McInerney, described as his "soulmate", on or before 12 April 2023 — days before she was due to move to Portugal with her pets to begin a new life. Her dismembered remains were then kept in a freezer at the flat in Gerards Court, alongside her dead guinea pigs, for approximately three years.

Human remains were discovered on the evening of Thursday 8 January this year after police received concerns about the safety of a woman. Officers attended the Gerards Court address and found the remains in the freezer.

Gordon, who denies murder, also faces a separate charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. The particulars of that charge allege he killed five guinea pigs between 10 April 2023 and 8 January 2026.

The prosecution opened its case before a jury on Monday. The trial is presided over by Mr Justice Goose and is estimated to last around six weeks.
