Sunken vessel recovered at Fermanagh jetty in Carrie Mullane murder probe

A sunken vessel is being recovered from Tullyinishmore Jetty in County Fermanagh as part of the murder investigation into the disappearance of Limerick mother Carrie Mullane, uk.news.yahoo.com reports.

Waterways Ireland confirmed the recovery operation in a marine notice issued on Wednesday, November 4, stating that the jetty — located between Enniskillen and Carrybridge — would be closed until Friday, November 6. Access by both land and water has been prohibited to facilitate the recovery.

It is not known exactly when the vessel was discovered, nor whether its recovery is directly linked to the murder investigation. The PSNI has not publicly confirmed a connection.

35-year-old man questioned on suspicion of murder

The development follows the arrest of a 35-year-old man at a property in Trasna Park, Enniskillen, on Tuesday morning. Detectives were subsequently granted an additional 36 hours to question him on suspicion of murder, following a court extension granted on Wednesday, November 4.

A boat trailer was removed from an adjacent car park at the property on Tuesday afternoon, with a recovery vehicle arriving at around 4pm. Forensic officers examined the property throughout the day while detectives conducted door-to-door enquiries in the residential estate.

Searches had initially begun in a field beside Elim Pentecostal Church, close to Trasna Park, with assistance from the Search and Rescue Dog Association, before the focus of the operation shifted to Carrybridge. Residents in Trasna Park described the estate as a "quiet area" as police activity intensified.

Police activity was also observed at Tullyinishmore Jetty on Thursday, with the car park cordoned off as detectives carried out enquiries along Drumhirk Road. A police boat was seen leaving the area towards Enniskillen at around 4pm.

Last seen in Enniskillen on October 10

Carrie Mullane, 39, was last seen on Saturday, October 10, after travelling from Limerick to Enniskillen accompanied by a man known to her. Detectives confirmed the pair arrived at Enniskillen bus station before taking a taxi to an address in Trasna Park at approximately 9pm. That is the last confirmed sighting of Mullane, who has not been seen or heard from by family or friends since.

Police had previously noted it was suggested she may have travelled to the Londonderry area the following day, though enquiries failed to establish any evidence to support this.

Detective Superintendent Richard Thornton, from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch, said the lack of contact was extremely out of character for Mullane, who was usually in almost daily contact with her family. Thornton said enquiries had led detectives to hold serious concerns that she may have been the victim of a violent crime and could have been murdered sometime after arriving in Northern Ireland.

The PSNI has appealed for anyone who saw Mullane on the weekend of October 10, or who holds information about her disappearance, to come forward. Those with information are asked to contact police on 101 and request the Major Investigation Team on extension 40374, quoting reference number 272 of October 29. Information can also be submitted anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
