Petrol bomb attack targets PSNI officers in Strabane residential area

Three masked men hurled petrol bombs at a Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) patrol car in the Ballycolman Estate, Strabane, County Tyrone, shortly after 17:00 BST on Saturday, bbc.com reports.

The men, all dressed in black, each threw a petrol bomb at the passenger side of the vehicle as officers were on patrol in the area. The car sustained minor damage.

PSNI Chief Inspector Cherith Craig condemned the incident. "This was a totally reckless attack in a built-up residential area and while only minor damage was caused to the vehicle, this could have resulted in serious injuries to the officers or to nearby members of the public," Craig said.

"Our officers are here to help, and to respond to calls to assist those who need that help. Attacks on police are unacceptable and must not be tolerated."

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
