Nottinghamshire Police has charged a 27-year-old woman following a shooting in which a police officer was struck in the foot while on duty in Nottingham city centre.

The officer approached a man and a woman at a bus stop on Angel Row shortly before 04:50 on Sunday morning, according to nottinghamshire.police.uk. He was shot in the foot and remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Aisha Zaman, of Collison Street, Hyson Green, has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. The charges followed consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service. Zaman has been remanded into custody and is due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Six further individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. Two men, aged 24 and 30, and two women, aged 25 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. A 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender; both remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Superintendent Rich Bull, who is leading the investigation, said the "outpouring of support" for the injured officer had been "greatly appreciated". "We would just like to take this moment to thank the public," he added. Bull said the force continues to support the officer during his hospital treatment and is keeping him and his family informed of developments.

Officers are "still following a number of lines of inquiry", Bull said, and members of the public with relevant information have been asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police directly.
