Fatal stabbing on Pound Lane, Willesden

A 50-year-old woman was stabbed to death in a busy street in Willesden, north-west London, on Saturday afternoon, bbc.com reports. Emergency services were called to Pound Lane at around 16:00 GMT, where they found the woman with stab wounds. Paramedics attended but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murder the same day. Officers said they believed the man was known to the victim. He remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, who is leading the murder investigation, said there was no indication the attack was anything other than an isolated incident. "This incident happened in a busy part of Willesden, and I'd also like to thank the members of the public who provided first aid and called the emergency services," she said.

Woodsford added that establishing the full circumstances remained the priority. "Based on our enquiries so far, there is nothing to suggest any wider risk to the public," she said.

Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis, responsible for local policing in Brent, described the incident as "tragic and deeply concerning" and said his thoughts remained with the victim's family, friends and all those affected.

Local officers are patrolling the area to provide reassurance and to speak to witnesses or anyone who may hold relevant information.
