Worle resident remanded after explosive substances and firearm found
A 70-year-old man has appeared before magistrates after police discovered suspected explosive substances and firearms at a property in Worle, bbc.com reports.
Peter Bissell, of Becket Road, faces two charges: possessing explosive substances for unlawful purposes and possessing a firearm without a certificate. He appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Bristol Crown Court next week.
The incident, which took place on 30 September, prompted officers to establish a 100-metre cordon around the area. Avon and Somerset Police described it as a "complex and significant investigation".
Neighbourhood policing superintendent Jen Appleford confirmed that "multiple agencies" had been involved in the response, and thanked the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit alongside officers and staff.
Appleford acknowledged the disruption caused to local residents. "I appreciate the patience and understanding shown by residents who were affected by the cordon and evacuation measures put in place to keep people safe," she said.
She urged the public to refrain from speculation while the case moves through the courts. "Court proceedings are now active, and we would ask people not to speculate about the case while it progresses through the criminal justice system," she added.
