Mississippi releases body cam footage in death of toddler Kohen Wiley
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety has released body camera footage from the fatal shooting of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley in a Walmart car park in Senatobia, kltv.com reports.
Wiley was shot and killed by a Senatobia Police Officer on 14 June. The newly released footage shows the body camera of the officer who fired into the vehicle.
The video begins inside the store's loss prevention office, where a Walmart employee interrupts law enforcement officers to report that "two women are running." Officers are then seen pursuing Wiley and a second woman as both enter a vehicle in the car park.
With guns drawn, officers positioned themselves in front of the car and are heard ordering the driver to stop. The driver reversed out of the parking space before moving toward the officers, striking one of them. The vehicle then crossed into an adjacent aisle, hit a parked car, and drove away.
Wiley's family is calling on the Department of Justice to open an investigation into his death.
Action News 5 had previously received separate footage from Darkhorse Press, two days after Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch's office concluded that the officers' actions were justified. That material includes five videos: three body-camera recordings from Senatobia officers and two Walmart surveillance clips.
Warning: Some viewers may find the footage difficult to watch.
