Broome County drug bust: 25 lbs of meth, 7 lbs of fentanyl seized, three arrested

Three arraigned after major drug haul in Broome County, New York

Federal and local law enforcement dismantled a drug trafficking operation in Broome County, seizing 25 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly seven pounds of fentanyl, spectrumlocalnews.com reports.

Three individuals were arraigned on 2 October on federal charges of distributing methamphetamine: Jermaine Cooper, 53, of Apalachin; Sherry Olk, 40, of Binghamton; and Shamell Tate, 36, of Endicott. Federal authorities say additional charges remain possible.

Beyond the meth and fentanyl, investigators recovered approximately $60,000 in cash, nearly one-and-a-half pounds of cocaine, and oxycodone pills. All three defendants are alleged to have been members of the same drug trafficking organisation.

Prosecutors allege Cooper and Olk sold more than 100 grams of a methamphetamine mixture in July. Tate is alleged to have sold more than 200 grams in September.

Each charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 40 years in prison. A judge will determine any sentence upon conviction. All three remain in custody pending trial in U.S. District Court.

Craig Tremaroli, special agent in charge of the FBI's Albany Field Office, credited inter-agency cooperation for the outcome. "These arrests and seizures are a direct result of the continued partnerships and incredible coordination we share at every level of law enforcement throughout Broome County," he said.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar said the operation delivered what residents expect. "Getting dangerous drug dealers off our streets is what the law-abiding residents and families of our community expect and deserve from law enforcement," he said.

The case was investigated by the FBI, New York State Police, Broome County Sheriff's Office and Vestal Police Department.
