A man believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting of a Culver CityBus driver in Mar Vista has been arrested, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. latimes.com first reported the arrest on Friday.

The shooting occurred Thursday evening near the intersection of South Centinela and Mitchell avenues. The victim, a man in his 40s, has not been publicly identified by police.

LAPD Officer Tony Im confirmed that officers had "taken a suspect into custody believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting," but said the department would release further details at a later stage. Detectives from the LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division are, in Im's words, "actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident."

Multiple rounds were fired during the attack. The suspected gunman initially fled the scene on a bicycle and was described by authorities as a white man.

The victim's role as a bus driver was confirmed by Culver City Vice Mayor Bubba Fish, who notified The Times by email. Culver City Mayor Freddy Puza also wrote to The Times late Thursday, saying the city had lost a "beloved member of our city team to a senseless [act of] violence."
