Shooting at Erie County nursing home kills husband and wife

A 75-year-old man fatally shot his wife at a nursing home in Huron Township, Ohio, on Thursday morning before dying himself, in what the Erie County Sheriff's Office is describing as an apparent murder-suicide, cleveland19.com reports.

The shooting took place around 11:30 a.m. at The Meadows at Osborn Park on Perkins Avenue. The man had arrived at the facility to visit his wife, a 73-year-old patient, and concealed a handgun from nursing staff before entering her room.

Staff reported hearing two possible gunshots from the wife's room and alerted authorities. Deputies found both individuals wounded. The woman died at the scene; the man was transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where he also died.

The names of both individuals have not been released. The Lucas County Coroner's Office will perform autopsies on both.
