Four children found hiding in bathroom while mother was at sea

A 29-year-old North Miami Beach woman was arrested on four counts of child neglect after allegedly leaving her four children — including a 2-month-old infant and a 2-year-old — alone in her home while she boarded a three-day Carnival cruise to the Bahamas, according to court documents reviewed by abc7.com.

Officers discovered the children on Saturday after Lether Bazile called 911. Bazile, the father of the 2-month-old, told police he had grown concerned after seeing a WhatsApp post from Nathalie Belizaire on Sept. 24 that appeared to show a cruise ticket purchase. Authorities confirmed Belizaire held a ticket for a voyage departing Sept. 25.

Bazile said Belizaire told him during their last conversation on Sept. 24 that she intended to leave the children with their great-grandmother. The great-grandmother told police Belizaire had mentioned bringing the children over before going out of town, but never followed through.

On Saturday, Bazile went to Belizaire's home, noticed the television on through the blinds and heard the children inside. Responding officers found all four kids together, hiding in a bathroom.

Belizaire's brother told investigators he received a text from his sister on Saturday asking him to check on her children, the court documents said.

On Monday, officers went to PortMiami and took Belizaire into custody as she disembarked from the cruise. She declined to speak with police.

Belizaire appeared in court Tuesday for a bond hearing. She has not entered a plea, and her attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
