Iowa kidnapping suspect caught in Mission Beach after living as chef for 14 years
A man wanted in connection with a 2012 kidnapping in Iowa has been arrested in San Diego after spending nearly 14 years living there under a false identity, cbs8.com reports.
Brian Anthony Williams, 50, was charged in Scott County, Iowa, following an incident in which a woman was allegedly kidnapped, assaulted and shot in Davenport. Charges against him include first-degree kidnapping, assault causing serious injury, conspiracy to commit a felony, first-degree arson and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Williams fled Iowa in 2013 and, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, had since been living in San Diego under the name Troy Williams, working as a chef. He had appeared in local publications and television news reports under that assumed name.
"Williams has remained a fugitive for nearly 14 years, appearing on local news stations in the Quad Cities as a most wanted fugitive as well as being posted on the United States Marshals Service Southern District of Iowa's webpage," USMS officials stated.
Authorities learned in September that Williams was living in the San Diego area. On Tuesday, U.S. marshals located him at a business in the 3700 block of Mission Boulevard in Mission Beach and took him into custody without further incident.
U.S. Marshal Ted Kamatchus, of the Southern District of Iowa, said in a statement: "This arrest is a perfect example of those who think they have bested law enforcement and evaded arrest. Deputy U.S. Marshals remain resolute in their relentless pursuit of the most dangerous offenders in our society."
Williams is expected to be extradited to Iowa to face the charges against him.
