Mission Beach chef held after 14 years as a fugitive in Iowa kidnapping case
A San Diego head chef has been arrested this week in connection with a kidnapping, assault and shooting that took place in Iowa more than 14 years ago, nbcsandiego.com reports.
Brian Anthony Williams, 50, was charged in 2012 in Scott County, Iowa, where he and alleged co-conspirators kidnapped a woman, assaulted and shot her, then left her in a field. Williams is accused of having fled Iowa to avoid prosecution.
Operating under the alias "Troy Williams," he went on to build a career as a chef in Mission Beach, where he became a well-known figure in the local restaurant scene. The U.S. Marshals Service said it later established that Williams had been living in San Diego and had appeared in local print and television news stories under the assumed name.
Marshals arrested Williams on Tuesday at a Mission Beach business. He is now awaiting extradition to Iowa, where he faces charges of first-degree kidnapping, assault, conspiracy to commit a felony, and first-degree arson. He also faces a separate charge of unlawful flight for allegedly leaving Iowa to evade prosecution.
NBC 7's Jeannette Quezada spoke to the manager of a restaurant where Williams had been employed.
