Man arrested in Boulder after hours-long domestic disturbance on Canfield Street

Boulder Police arrested a 51-year-old man Tuesday evening following a domestic disturbance that stretched across several hours and prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order for roughly 255 contacts in the surrounding neighbourhood, bouldercolorado.gov reports.
The incident began at approximately 12:49 p.m. when officers received a 911 call reporting a disturbance in the 3700 block of Canfield Street, near Independence Road. Officers arrived minutes later and subsequently received information raising concerns for the safety of a person inside the residence.
After repeated de-escalation attempts failed to establish contact with the suspect, police requested specialised resources, including a SWAT team, to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.
As a precautionary measure, shelter-in-place notifications were issued to approximately 255 contacts in the area. Officers also coordinated the evacuation of a nearby childcare facility, Growing Minds Learning Academy, directing parents to safe pick-up points. The evacuation was completed shortly before 5 p.m.
Shannon Houser, 51, was taken into custody at 5:37 p.m. The victim was safely removed from the situation without injuries.
Houser was booked into Boulder County Jail on charges of first-degree criminal trespass and criminal violation of a protection order. The shelter-in-place order was lifted just before 6:00 p.m. and roads in the area subsequently reopened.
Boulder Police acknowledged the assistance of the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Boulder Fire-Rescue, and Falck during the response.
