Double killing at Pennsylvania water resort after three-week family stay
A 27-year-old Pennsylvania woman has been charged with criminal homicide after allegedly stabbing her husband and their three-year-old son to death inside a hotel room at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains, foxnews.com reports.
Metallica Rose Harrison is accused of using butcher knives to kill her husband, Charles "Chaz" Harrison, 36, and the couple's young son on Monday. The family had been staying at the resort since 21 September and were due to check out the following day.
Officers arrived at the scene after a 911 call reporting a "suicidal woman" who "needed help dying." Inside the hotel room, police found the two victims with stab wounds, along with knives, blood, and various medications, according to court documents.
Three-week stay at $600-a-night resort raises questions
The family — originally from the small rural town of Towanda, Pennsylvania — had been at the resort for nearly three weeks, an arrangement described as unusual by the property's management. A Great Wolf Lodge spokesperson told Fox News Digital that extended stays do occur, typically when families are displaced during home renovations.
"We've had families in the past stay at our resorts for extended periods of time while completing home renovations or repairs because our rooms are larger and there's a lot of entertainment offerings, so a multi-week stay is uncommon, but not completely unusual," the spokesperson said in a written statement.
The nightly rate at the resort can exceed $600. The spokesperson declined to comment on the specifics of how the Harrison family was funding their stay, referring further questions to law enforcement.
Victim remembered as devoted father
Melissa Rivera, who identified herself as Chaz Harrison's sister, wrote publicly about the loss in the days following the killings. "Their passing was sudden, and we are heartbroken trying to come to terms with losing two people we loved so dearly," Rivera wrote, adding that she had set up an online fundraiser to cover funeral costs.
"Chaz was a good guy whose whole life was centered around his wife and child," Rivera continued. "He meant so much to our family, and the pain of losing both him and my nephew so unexpectedly is hard to put into words."
According to the couple's social media accounts, Metallica Rose and Chaz Harrison had been married for approximately three years at the time of the killings. In the days before the incident, Metallica Rose Harrison had posted photographs of the family at the resort's water park.
Suspect denied bond, hearing scheduled
Harrison is currently held in Monroe County jail. A judge denied her bond, court records show. She is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on 21 October.
The Great Wolf Lodge confirmed it is cooperating fully with local law enforcement. The resort did not release further details about the circumstances of the extended stay beyond what was shared with investigators.
