NYPD Appeals for Public Help Finding Missing Bronx Boy, 12

The New York Police Department is asking the public to help find a 12-year-old boy who went missing from the Bedford Park section of the Bronx on July 4, norwoodnews.org reports.

Alexander Almonte, of 2815 Grand Concourse, was last seen leaving his home at around 7 a.m. on Saturday. He is described as Hispanic, approximately 4 feet tall, weighing around 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark-colored pants.

A local resident who works at a newsstand at the Bedford Park Boulevard subway station — which serves the 4 train — told norwoodnews.org on Thursday, July 9, that he recognized Alexander from his photo and sees him regularly. Devin Whitehead, whose parents own the newsstand, said the boy typically arrives at the station in the late afternoon.

"Alexander Almonte normally comes off the train around 5 / 5.30 [p.m.]," Whitehead said. He described Alexander as a friendly and polite regular visitor. "He comes and normally says hi. He would come and buy something or if he doesn't have anything, I give him something. Seems like a nice kid from what I've seen."

Whitehead said Alexander lives only a few blocks from the station and expressed hope for his safe return. "Hopefully, the NYPD finds him or he comes home or some of the community members spot him and recognize him," he said. "He's just an all around good kid, and I just send my warm regards and prayers to the family of Alexander Almonte."

Whitehead also shared footage with norwoodnews.org showing him searching the station and speaking with MTA workers to ask whether they had seen the boy.
