A 35-year-old mother has been charged with attempted murder after her two young children were found with stab wounds at a residence in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, wbtv.com reports.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Taylor Gosnell, who was arrested Saturday after deputies responded to a welfare check call at a home on Bud Arthur Bridge Road. Upon arrival, they found two unattended children — aged three and six — with wounds consistent with a knife attack.

Deputies also found shattered TVs and mirrors at the scene. Gosnell's mental health was flagged as a concern when she arrived at the property, and she was taken by ambulance for evaluation. At one point, she attempted to flee the ambulance.

Both children were transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. They are expected to survive, though the six-year-old sustained severe damage to one arm that may require amputation, according to the 7th Circuit Solicitor's Office.

An investigation concluded that Gosnell attacked the children with both a knife and a blunt object, deputies said.

Gosnell was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center and denied bond. The sheriff's office confirmed the investigation remains active.
