Eleven people in their late teens were shot overnight Sunday at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, Georgia, cbsnews.com reports. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office confirmed the shooting took place around midnight during a large gathering at the park, located approximately 85 miles southeast of Atlanta.

The victims were identified as four 18-year-old men, two 18-year-old women and five 17-year-old boys. Two of them — an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy — were in critical condition; the remaining nine were stable.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis told reporters the gathering had originally been planned as a birthday party at an Airbnb in Jones County, but the group was asked to leave that property. Several attendees were students from nearby Central High School and Northeast High School, Davis said.

After the group relocated to Carolyn Crayton Park, a second group arrived. An argument between the two groups escalated into gunfire, Davis said at a press conference. All eleven victims were part of the original birthday party, he confirmed.

Davis said he "can't remember the last time we've had this many people shot at one time."

The FBI is assisting with the investigation given the number of victims involved, though Davis noted that all evidence gathered so far points to a local incident. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
