Great Wolf Lodge double killing: suspect 'packed kitchen knives from home before family trip'

The family of Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, has said she "never wanted to get pregnant" and resented her son for taking time away from her relationship with her husband, according to wagmtv.com, which cited local broadcaster WPVI.

Harrison is charged with two counts of criminal homicide in connection with the deaths of her husband, Charles Harrison, and the couple's three-year-old son at the Great Wolf Lodge resort in Scotrun, Pennsylvania.

Authorities were alerted to a "violent domestic tragedy" in a hotel room at the resort at around 3 p.m. on Monday. Officers arrived to find Metallica Harrison with self-inflicted cuts to her wrists and neck; she had called 911 herself and was suicidal at the time, investigators said. Charles Harrison was found with multiple stab wounds to his chest. The couple's son, whose name has not been released, had a single stab wound through the chest.

A criminal complaint states that a "large butcher kitchen knife" and a smaller knife — both with teal handles — were recovered from the bathroom. Staff at Great Wolf Lodge confirmed the knives did not belong to the property, according to the complaint.

The family had checked into the resort on 21 September. On 5 October they extended their stay, with a checkout date set for 13 October, placing the killings near the end of what amounted to a three-week vacation.

Harrison was transferred to hospital to receive treatment for her self-inflicted injuries and remains in police custody. The Monroe County District Attorney's Office, which brought the charges, described the case as the beginning of a lengthy investigation. Investigators said they are continuing to review extensive evidence gathered at the scene, and autopsies are scheduled for later this week.

The Monroe County district attorney did not elaborate further on the evidence under review.
