Randolph County Man Charged Over Fatal Shooting of Yorktown Football Star Chris Wilson Jr.

Suspect charged in Muncie killing of teenage football prospect

A Randolph County man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Chris Wilson Jr., a 17-year-old Yorktown High School football player, wibc.com reports.

Muncie police named Dairus Thompson II as facing a preliminary charge of aiding, inducing, or causing murder in the October 5 shooting death of Wilson, who was found inside a vehicle on the 1400 block of East Cromer Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds.

Wilson was a standout defensive end at Yorktown High School and had already committed to play college football at West Virginia University.

According to court documents, detectives tracked Thompson's white GMC Acadia on video heading toward Randolph County shortly after the shooting. Phone records placed Thompson and a teenage relative in Muncie at the time of the incident.

Witnesses told police that Thompson described the shooting as a case of mistaken identity. Investigators allege Thompson parked his vehicle and directed the teenage relative to carry out the shooting on his behalf.

Police also recovered a video on Thompson's phone in which he gave instructions on how to perform a drive-by shooting.

Thompson was already in custody at the time of the charge on an unrelated firearm offence stemming from a September homicide outside a nightclub in Anderson.
