Father of four killed in Jamaica Avenue stabbing as family pleads for justice
The parents of Sulimon Ferrier, 29, spoke publicly on Sunday about the fatal stabbing of their son outside Seduction Lounge & Bar on Jamaica Avenue in Queens, cbsnews.com reports. Police are still searching for the suspect.
Peter Ferrier said his son was leaving the bar with him and a family friend in the early hours of Saturday morning when a man began making threats. "The guy kept raving [at] us and then he pull something out his pocket and his backpack," Peter Ferrier said. He told his son to head home, but as they crossed the road the man followed and stabbed Sulimon twice — once in the chest, once in the back.
Sulimon's mother, Cynthia Ferrier, held her son as he lay dying in the street. "I pick him up and he said, 'Mom, I can't breathe. I love you.' I said, 'I love you, too,'" she recalled.
Surveillance video captured the confrontation on the median. The footage shows Cynthia Ferrier physically intervening, grabbing the attacker in an attempt to stop the assault. "I wasn't afraid. It was best God take me before they take my child," she said. Peter Ferrier added that the family tried to disarm the man but were unable to prevent the final blows.
Sulimon Ferrier was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was a father of four children, ranging in age from eight months to ten years old.
Police sources describe the suspect as approximately 5-foot-9 with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, a black skull cap, and a gold chain.
Candles bearing the name of Sulimon, known to family as "Joe," remained lit outside the family home through Sunday's rain. His brother, Peter Ferrier Jr., described him as a constant presence in the lives of those around him. "He would always come and check up on you, but in his own way. He would ask you how you're doing and get you a plate of food," he said.
His father addressed the suspect directly: "You can run far, they're gonna catch you. They're gonna catch somebody for you."
Cynthia Ferrier offered a different response. "I forgive him. I would forgive him. But I lose my son," she said. "What he did, I don't think he meant it. I think he did it out of anger."
