Tacoma police fatally shot a man on Sunday afternoon after responding to a reported domestic assault in the 700 block of South Stevens Street, komonews.com reports.

Officers were dispatched to the address at approximately 2:38 p.m. and arrived at 3:09 p.m. Shots were reported fired at the scene at around 3:56 p.m.

According to the Tacoma Police Department, officers rendered aid to the suspect until Tacoma Fire Department personnel arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene. The suspect's identity was not released.

The Pierce County Force Investigation Team and the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations both responded. The Office of Independent Investigations will lead the inquiry into the officer-involved shooting.

The officer who fired the shots was not injured and will be placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy.
